Fatal MPV Crash on Pollachi-Palakkad Road

Mother and Son Die on the Spot

On Friday, a tragic accident on the Pollachi-Palakkad Road near Anaimalai claimed the lives of Y. Asha (41) and her four-year-old son, Y. Anuppuraj. The victims were residents of Kulathupalayam in Tirupur district.

Family’s Journey Ends in Tragedy

The incident occurred while Asha, her three children—Anuppuraj (4), Abhineshwaran (11), and Ashwathi (21)—and the driver, M. Vimalraj (35), were on their way to a temple in Thrissur, Kerala. At Govindapuram, the driver lost control of the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), causing it to veer off the road and crash into a coconut tree in an agricultural field.

Driver Escapes, Airbags Deploy

Although the vehicle’s airbags deployed, Asha and Anuppuraj, seated in the second row, suffered fatal head injuries. They died instantly. The other children survived with minor injuries and were rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment.

Police Respond and Begin Investigation

The Anaimalai police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them for postmortem examination at Pollachi Government Hospital. Further investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.

In another unfortunate incident early Friday morning, two men died when their flower-laden mini-truck collided with the rear of a goods lorry on the Namakkal-Salem National Highway near Pappinaickenpatti, Namakkal district.

Victims Identified as Residents of Dindigul

The deceased were identified as Nagaraj and Vignesh, both residents of Dindigul. They were seated on the left side of the truck. The driver, Sakthivel, sustained severe injuries and is currently in the ICU of Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital.

Traffic Disruption on National Highway

The crash caused significant disruption to traffic on the Namakkal-Salem National Highway for over an hour before police and local authorities cleared the site.

Police Conduct On-Site Inquiry

The Nalliapalayam police conducted an inquiry and sent the bodies of the deceased for postmortem examination at Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
