Lahore Experiences Rainfall

Lahore has been hit by a burst of rain, providing temporary relief from the heat but causing disruptions to traffic. Areas such as Canal Road, The Mall, Davies Road, Lakshmi Chowk, and surrounding neighborhoods experienced light to moderate rainfall.

Monsoon Forecast

Weather experts predict that the current monsoon spell will continue until August 25, with intermittent rain expected throughout the country.

Impact on Punjab

In Punjab, recent rains have led to significant issues. Last week, a roof collapse in Faisalabad resulted in the deaths of three laborers and injuries to one other, who is now receiving treatment at Allied Hospital. In total, 84 people have died, 224 have been injured, and 84 houses have been damaged in rain-related incidents in Punjab.

Regional Updates

  • South Punjab: Rains have caused disruptions, including a 20-foot sinkhole in Uch canal, Ahmedpur East, and rising water levels in Head Trimmu.
  • Sindh: Sukkur has experienced 290 mm of rain, breaking a 77-year-old record and causing severe flooding in nearby areas. Larkana, Qaziabad, and Jacobabad have also faced significant rainfall. Karachi’s prolonged downpours have left residents struggling with rainwater accumulation.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: Landslides in Gojal, Hunza, Astore, and Ghizer have destroyed 20 houses and stranded many tourists. Heavy rains have also led to road closures.
  • Balochistan: Intense showers have inundated low-lying areas in Kohlu, Awaran, and Bolan districts. National Highway N-40 remains closed for traffic after two days of heavy rain.

Conclusion

The ongoing monsoon has caused widespread disruption and damage across Pakistan. Authorities are working to manage the impacts of the severe weather conditions.
